Automated Plunger & Park-Lock-Valve Assembly Station

Machine Design Traceability Tremec 2024

Tremec needed to automate a manual assembly step joining a plunger and Park Lock Valve (PLV) with a dowel pin and retaining ring. I led the Exxerpro team that designed, built and programmed the replacement station, with full Datamatrix part traceability feeding directly into Tremec's existing traceability system.

Scope of Work

  • Bosch-profile structural frame and pneumatic pin/ring insertion tooling.
  • PLC/HMI programming for the full assembly sequence.
  • Cognex Datamatrix scanning integrated with Tremec's existing traceability system.
  • Electrical panel build and wiring.
  • FAT/SAT and commissioning.

Architecture

A pneumatically actuated press station inserts a dowel pin and retaining ring joining the plunger and PLV, with fixation verified cycle-to-cycle by a digital probe measurement. Datamatrix codes are read and pushed into Tremec's traceability system through PLC logic.

Technology

  • Siemens S7-1200, TP700 HMI
  • Cognex barcode/Datamatrix scanner
  • Pneumatic actuators, dowel-pin/retaining-ring press tooling
